Isabel Raabe interessiert sich in ihrer kuratorischen Arbeit  für kuratorische und künstlerische Strategien, die westliche Perspektiven und Denktraditionen durchbrechen. Sie sucht in ihren Projekten dekoloniale Perspektiven und neue Narrative. Sie arbeitet meist an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Politik und Wissenschaft. Sie interessiert sich für und glaubt an künstlerische Formen der Wissensproduktion. Meistens arbeitet sie interdisziplinär in den Bereichen Bildende Kunst, Tanz und Performance, Film und Literatur. Isabel Raabe bezeichnet sich selbst als Generalistin.

Isabel Raabe studierte Tanz (in Berlin und New York) und später Kulturmanagement in Berlin und begründete und leitete 12 Jahre lang gemeinsam mit Franziska Sauerbrey das büro für kulturelle angelegenheiten in Berlin. Beide konzipierten und kuratierten zusammen Kulturprojekte für die Kulturstiftung des Bundes, die Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung und viele andere Kulturinstitutionen. Sie entwickelten während dieser Zeit immer auch eigene Kunstprojekte zu Themen, die sie bewegten, meist im internationalen Kontext: Ausstellungen, multimediale Performances und Theaterfestivals, mit KünstlerInnen u.a. aus dem Kosovo, der Republik Moldau, dem Iran oder Ecuador. Zuletzt initiierten Isabel Raabe und Franziska Sauerbrey das Projekt „RomArchive – Digitales Archiv der Sinti und Roma“, das fünf Jahre durch die Kulturstiftung des Bundes gefördert wurde und 2019 online ging. RomArchive gewann den European Cultural Heritage Award 2019 und den Grimme Online Award 2020. Derzeit arbeitet sie an dem langfristig angelegten Projekt TALKING OBJECTS, bestehend aus dem TALKING OBJECTS ARCHIVE – Digital Archive for Decolonial Knowledge und dem begleitenden TALKING OBJECTS LAB.

Ihr neues Buch “Widerstand durch Kunst – Sinti und Roma und ihr kulturelles Schaffen” (herausgegeben gemeinsam mit Romani Rose und Moritz Pankok) erschien im April 2022 m Ch. Links Verlag.

Isabel Raabe ist Mitglied der Kulturpolitischen Gesellschaft und Assoziiertes Mitglied des ERIAC – European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture und Mitglied des Kuratorischen Teams von BARAZANI.berlin.

Isabel Raabe arbeitet als freie Kuratorin und Kulturproduzentin in Berlin.

In her curatorial work Isabel Raabe is interested in curatorial and artistic strategies that disrupt Western perspectives and traditions of thought. In her projects she wo wants to show decolonial perspectives and new narratives. Isabel Raabe mostly works at the interface of art, politics and humanities. She is interested in and believes in artistic forms of knowledge production. Mostly she work interdisciplinary in the fields of fine arts, dance and performance, film and literature. Isabel Raabe describes herself as a generalist. 

Isabel Raabe studied dance (in Berlin and New York) and later cultural management in Berlin. Together with Franziska Sauerbrey, Isabel Raabe founded the independent büro für kulturelle angelegenheiten (office for cultural affairs) in Berlin which she managed for 12 years. They designed and produced cultural projects for the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Federal Agency for Civic Education and many other cultural institutions. During this time she started to develope and curate own art projects, mostly in an international context: exhibitions, multimedia performances and theatre festivals, with artists from Kosovo, the Republic of Moldova, Iran or Ecuador, among others. In 2014, Isabel Raabe and Franziska Sauerbrey initiated the project “RomArchive – Digital Archive of Sinti and Roma“, which was funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation for five years and went online in 2019. RomArchive won the European Cultural Heritage Award in 2019 and the Grimme Online Award 2020. Currently she is working on a new long-termed project called TALKING OBJECTS, consisting of the TALKING OBJECTS ARCHIVE – Digital Archive for Decolonial Knowledge, and the accompanying TALKING OBJECTS LAB.

Her new book “Widerstand durch Kunst – Sinti und Roma und ihr kulturelles Schaffen” (edited together with Romani Rose and Moritz Pankok) was published in April 2022 by Ch. Links Verlag.

Isabel Raabe is member of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft and Associated Member of ERIAC – European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture and member of the curatorial team of BARAZANI.berlin.
