»La Palabre« nimmt Bezug auf die soziale Praxis des öffentlichen Diskurses, der Zusammenkunft und der Konfliktlösung in zahlreichen Ländern des afrikanischen Kontinents; der Ort ist stets ein Baobab Baum, der l’arbre à palabre.

»La Palabre« verhandelt Themen, die wir im Rahmen des Projekts TALKING OBJECTS LAB über die vergangenen zwei Jahre in Symposien, Gesprächen, Think Tanks, und künstlerischen Interventionen erarbeitet haben. Impulsgebend für die Abende ist jeweils ein Input aus dem TALKING OBJECTS LAB (Texte, Video-Performances oder Lectures), zu denen ein bis zwei Berliner Künstler*innen oder Speaker*innen, insbesondere aus den BIPoC Communities, arbeiten und gemeinsam mit den eingeladenen Gäst*innen diskutieren. Für das feste Ritual des gemeinsamen Essens laden wir Köch*innen, Künstler*innen, Anthropolog*innen, Poet*innen und Initiativen ein, die sich mit der kulturellen Praxis des Essens, der Nahrung und ihrer kolonialen Verstrickungen beschäftigen.

Wir sprechen über die bis in die Gegenwart wirksamen Auswirkungen kolonialer Gewalt auf Essen und Landwirtschaft, die Berliner Gastronomieszene und Gentrifizierung, und über unser Verhältnis zur Natur. Wir diskutieren über Schwarzes Wissen, nicht nur im akademischen Kontext. Wir gehen der Frage nach, was und wie im kollektiven Gedächtnis erinnert wird. Wir hadern mit Institutionen und ihrer Strukturen. Und wir stellen immer wieder die Frage: was kann Wissen heute sein?

Die Reihe »La Palabre« wird kuratiert von Isabel Raabe und Celina Baljeet Basra, und findet im Rahmen der Think Tank-, Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsreihe TALKING OBJECTS LAB statt.

“La Palabre” refers to the social practice of public discourse, gathering and conflict resolution in numerous countries on the African continent; the location is always a baobab tree, the” l’arbre à palabre”.

“La Palabre” deals with themes that we have developed over the past two years in symposia, talks, think tanks and artistic interventions as part of the TALKING OBJECTS LAB project. The impulse for each evening is an input from the TALKING OBJECTS LAB (texts, video performances or lectures), on which one or two Berlin artists or speakers, especially from the BIPoC communities, work and discuss together with the invited guests. For the fixed ritual of eating together, we invite cooks, artists, anthropologists, poets and initiatives that deal with the cultural practice of eating, food and its colonial entanglements.

We will talk about the effects of colonial violence on food and agriculture, the Berlin gastronomy scene and gentrification, and about our relationship to nature. We discuss Black knowledge, not only in an academic context. We explore the question of what and how is remembered in collective memory. We quarrel with institutions and their structures. And we keep asking the question: what can knowledge be today?
