UNEXPECTED LESSONS ist die Pre-Quel des TALKING OBJECTS LAB, einer Think Tank und Ausstellungsreihe im Rahmen des langfristig angelegten Projekts TALKING OBECTS, zu dem auch das TALKING OBJECTS ARCHIVE gehört, ein Archive für dekoloniale Wissensproduktion (Launch 2024).
Unter anderem mit dem Soziologen und Ökonom Felwine Sarr, der Kunsthistorikerin, Filmemacherin und Autorin Nana Oforiatta Ayim, den Kunsthistoriker*innen Malick Ndiaye, Bénédicte Savoy, der Soziologin Natasha A. Kelly und der Kulturwissenschaftlerin Peggy Piesche, den Philosophin Yala Kisukidi, den Künstlerinnen Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro, Syowia Kyambi und Elsa M’bala, einem Filmprogramm kuratiert von der visuellen Anthropologin Nnenna Onuoha u.v.a.

What is needed are new perspectives that break up colonial patterns of thought and Eurocentric, white views that are deeply rooted in the European understanding of culture and knowledge. What is needed is a new historiography, an “epistemic disobedience”, as the literary scholar Walter Mignolo calls it. The performative discussion event UNEXPECTED LESSONS deals artistically and academically with the decolonization of memory and knowledge, with African philosophy, European Black Studies and decolonial mediation strategies in museums. It will take place on June 11-12, 2021 at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and parallel in Nairobi.
UNEXPECTED LESSONS is the prequel of the TALKING OBJECTS LAB, a think tank and exhibtion series in the frame of the long-term project TALKING OBECTS, which also includes the TALING OBJECTS ARCHIVE, a Digital Archive for decolonial Knowledge Production (Launch 2024).
