One Brick at a Time ist Teil des transnationalen Ausstellungsprojekts Where Memory Takes Place – الماضي، ما زال هنا („Die Vergangenheit ist noch immer hier“).
I am so excited to announce the first exhibition I curate in Cairo!
In One Brick at a Time the artist Amina Kadous takes Cairo as both subject and metaphor. Cairo is a city in constant transformation: buildings are dismantled, streets disappear and new structures rise in their place. In One Brick at a Time, Amina Kadous explores this process through the fragments of a changing city.
Each fragment becomes a trace of a place, an image and a personal remembrance. Kadous constructs an archaeology of memory. Photography becomes an act of resistance against erasure, holding on to the fragments of a city that is constantly disassembling and reassembling itself.
One Brick at a Time is part of the transnational exhibition project Where Memory Takes Place –
The second part features a major solo exhibition by Amina Kadous at KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin, from 21 March – 25 July 2027.
A cooperation project of the KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin, and of the ARD Art Institute, Cairo, Egypt, funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, and ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Artists’ Contacts.
