Welches Wissen verbirgt sich in Objekten? Welche Erinnerungen in ihnen archiviert? Was haben sie uns zu erzählen und wie bringen wir sie ins Sprechen? Die Veranstaltung “Le Langage des Objects” im Musée Théodore Monod in Dakar bringt Künstler*innen und Experten*innen verschiedener Disziplinen zusammen, um über die Identitäten von Objekten und ihr inhärentes Wissen zu diskutieren.
Der Künstler Viyé Diba präsentiert seine Werke, die während eines dreiwöchigen Aufenthalts im Dialog mit der Künstlerin Caroline Gueye und den Objekten der Sammlung des Musée Théodore Monod entstanden sind. El Hadji Malick Ndiaye (Kunsthistoriker, Kurator Musée Théodore Monod) diskutiert mit Hamady Bocoum (Archäologe, Direktor des Musée des Civilisations Noires), Mamarame Seck (Linguist, Kurator am musée historique de Gorée, IFAN, Ch. A. Diop, Dakar) sowie mit den Kuratorinnen des Projekts TALKING OBJECTS Isabel Raabe und Mahret Ifeoma Kupka (Deutschland).
Die Think Tank-, Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsreihe TALKING OBJECTS LABuntersucht Wissensformen und -praktiken des afrikanischen Kontinents und erprobt Strategien der Vermittlung und Visualisierung erproben. Das LAB begleitet die Entwicklung des TALKING OBJECTS ARCHIVE, ein digitales Archiv für dekoloniale Wissensproduktion, das 2024 online gehen soll. Das Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire (IFAN Ch. A. Diop), zu dem auch das Musée Théodore Monod gehört, ist Partner des Projekts im Senegal.

What knowledge is hidden in objects? What memories are archived in them? What do they have to tell us and how do we make them speak? The event “Le Langage des Objects” at the Musée Théodore Monod in Dakar brings together artists and experts from different disciplines to discuss the identities of objects and their inherent knowledge.
The artist Viyé Diba presents his works, created during a three-week residency in dialogue with the artist Caroline Gueye and the objects of the Musée Théodore Monod collection. They will discuss with El Hadji Malick Ndiaye (art historian, curator at the musée Théodore Monod), Hamady Bocoum (archaeologist, director of the Musée des Civilisations Noires), Mamarame Seck (linguist, curator at the musée historique de Gorée, IFAN, Ch. A. Diop, Dakar) as well as with the curators of the project TALKING OBJECTS Isabel Raabe and Mahret Ifeoma Kupka (Germany).
The think tank, exhibition and event series TALKING OBJECTS LAB explores forms and practices of knowledge from the African continent and tests strategies of mediation and visualisation. The LAB accompanies the development of the TALKING OBJECTS ARCHIVE, a digital archive for decolonial knowledge production, which is scheduled to go online in 2024. The Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire (IFAN Ch. A. Diop), to which the Musée Théodore Monod belongs, is a partner of the project in Senegal.
